Discover some of the best hotels in Mitte, Berlin’s central district. This is an ideal area if you want to stay close to many of Berlin’s main attractions: Unter den Linden, Alexanderplatz, Brandenburg Gate, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, Museum Island and Berlin Cathedral.
North of the Spree, Mitte takes on a more village-like feel, with the quiet little streets of the Scheunenviertel, contemporary art galleries, independent and designer shops around Weinmeisterstrasse station, and countless cafés, bars and restaurants.
We have personally visited each of these hotels to assess their quality. Our in-depth knowledge of Berlin’s neighbourhoods also allows us to evaluate their surroundings: the atmosphere, access to public transport, and the choice of restaurants and activities nearby.

The Best Areas to Stay in Mitte
If you want to be close to Berlin’s main sights, look for accommodation along Unter den Linden or around Gendarmenmarkt.
Keep in mind, however, that these areas are among the most tourist-oriented parts of the district.
For a more local and lively Berlin atmosphere, look around Rosenthaler Platz and Hackescher Markt. In the Spandauer Vorstadt area, you are also within easy reach of Museum Island and the Reichstag. The neighbourhood is packed with restaurants, cafés, shops and contemporary art galleries.
Areas to Think Twice About in Mitte
Mitte is generally a safe district. However, some areas are less pleasant for a hotel stay.
Alexanderplatz, for example, has excellent public transport connections and a very central location, but it can be noisy and busy, with ongoing construction work. The square itself is also less atmospheric than some of Mitte’s other neighbourhoods.
The same applies to Leipziger Strasse, one of the district’s major traffic arteries, where the architecture and busy road can make the surroundings feel somewhat impersonal.
