About the Alternative Berlin tour
This tour offers a different way to discover Berlin, away from tourist clichés and well-trodden routes. It explores areas of transition, where recent history, alternative ways of using urban space and contemporary lifestyles meet – and sometimes clash.
Following the former route of the Berlin Wall, you will discover how an area that was once empty and off-limits became a unique laboratory for urban experimentation. The tour takes you to unexpected places: communal living spaces, former industrial sites transformed into new uses, and independent cultural projects that tell a different story of Berlin.
Throughout the tour, your guide puts the city’s major developments into perspective: the legacy of the Berlin Wall, post-reunification creativity, gentrification, local resistance and new urban dynamics. An immersive exploration of an inventive and socially engaged Berlin, where the unexpected is part of everyday life.
