About the Berlin historic centre tour

At the heart of Berlin, the Mitte district is where the city was born and developed over several centuries. This tour explores Berlin’s Prussian era, the arrival of refugees from across Europe, and the major urban and industrial transformations of the 18th and 19th centuries.

The route highlights different urban spaces that reflect these developments: commercial districts, grand avenues, cultural institutions and historic public squares. It shows how political ambitions, economic development and intellectual life gradually shaped the city and its identity.

Throughout the walk, your guide puts the major historical developments into perspective: the rise of Prussia, relative religious tolerance, industrialisation and urban modernisation. This provides a better understanding of the city as it is today.
