Discover Berlin from a different perspective

A lively way to explore the city beyond museums, and to understand Berlin’s culture through what people eat and drink every day.

Understand Berlin’s food culture

From popular and international specialities to traditional bakeries, each tasting offers an insight into local eating habits and the role food plays in everyday life in Berlin.

Explore an iconic Berlin neighbourhood

Prenzlauer Berg illustrates the city’s recent transformation, from a working-class neighbourhood to one of Berlin’s most sought-after and welcoming areas.

About our Berlin food tour

This food tour invites you to discover Berlin through its everyday eating habits. As you explore the streets of Prenzlauer Berg, you will taste some of the food and drinks enjoyed by locals: popular specialities, traditional bakery products, street food and treats from small neighbourhood restaurants.

The tour also tells the story of the city and explores the influence of international cuisine brought by successive waves of migration: the currywurst, which emerged in post-war Berlin; Turkish döner kebab, which has become a local classic; Germany’s extraordinary variety of breads; as well as pastries and the tradition of Kaffee und Kuchen.

Stops at a Späti or Imbiss also offer an opportunity to explore typically Berlin habits: eating standing up, buying a drink at any time of day, or using the German bottle deposit system (Pfand).

Berlin’s food culture is also creative and constantly evolving, with vegan restaurants, a growing craft beer scene, international cuisine and trendy local spots.
